In this desert region, water is vital to the quality of life. TOUA�s Water Department customers can rely on community water systems that are in compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. The drinking water is tested in TOUA�s on-site lab, approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. Our only source of water is groundwater. Tests for quality assurance are conducted regularly to provide the safest water for our customers. There are 3,209 water customers. The Water Department also ensures that the sewer systems that serve the Tohono O�odham Nation are properly maintained. There are currently 1,676 wastewater customers. TOUA�s Water Department has strived to efficiently maintain water systems on the Nation by regionalizing or tying-in small systems into one system that can be maintained in a central location. There are currently seven such systems in operation. |
